Privacy Policy

How ReadAloudKit collects, uses, stores, and protects account, planning, analytics, and payment-related information.
Sep 20, 2026

Effective date: September 20, 2026

ReadAloudKit is an independent book-discovery and lesson-planning service for teachers. This policy explains what information the service handles and the choices available to you. It does not apply to Storyline Online or other websites that you open from our links.

Information we handle

Information you provide

  • Account information: name, email address, authentication details, and profile settings when you create an account.
  • Planning information: saved books, favorites, grade or theme preferences, weekly plans, and taught-history records that you choose to save.
  • Support information: messages and context you send when asking for help, reporting a content issue, or making a privacy request.

Do not enter student names, student records, health information, or other sensitive student data. ReadAloudKit is designed for teacher planning, not student record management.

Information collected when you use the site

We may collect basic device and usage information such as browser type, referring page, pages viewed, feature interactions, approximate country, and error information. ReadAloudKit uses Umami for privacy-conscious product analytics. Analytics events are designed not to include lesson text, notes, email addresses, student names, or payment details.

A guest planning draft may be stored in your browser so that you can continue without creating an account. That local draft stays on that browser unless you sign in and choose to save it to your account.

Payments

Paid subscriptions are not active during the current teacher-testing stage. When payments are enabled, PayPal is the planned payment processor. ReadAloudKit will receive transaction and subscription status needed to provide access, but will not store your full card or bank details. PayPal's own privacy policy will apply to information processed by PayPal.

Why we use information

We use information to operate authentication, preserve your private planning workspace, provide requested features, prevent abuse, respond to support and privacy requests, understand whether the product is useful, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use teacher plans to publish public pages.

Service providers and disclosure

ReadAloudKit relies on service providers for hosting, database storage, authentication, analytics, email delivery, and—when enabled—payments. These providers process information for the service they provide. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users and the service, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate notice and safeguards.

Current core infrastructure includes Vercel for hosting and Neon for database services. Provider locations and subprocessors may change as the product develops.

Retention and security

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain legitimate records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. We use access controls and encrypted network connections, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

You can remove a guest draft through your browser storage controls. For account access, correction, export, or deletion requests, contact us using the address below. Some records may be retained when legally required or necessary for fraud prevention, billing, or security.

Children and schools

ReadAloudKit is built for teachers and parents, not for children to create accounts. Do not submit personal information about children or use the service as a student information system. School or district users remain responsible for their own privacy and procurement requirements.

Cookies and local storage

Authentication and security may require cookies. The guest planner uses browser storage to preserve a draft. Analytics configuration may use limited device or session information. You can control cookies and local storage through your browser, though disabling required storage may prevent sign-in or draft recovery.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product or its providers change. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date. We do not change dates merely to make a policy appear fresh.
